1. Can the cold therapy pad be placed directly on the skin?
No, there needs to be a barrier layer between your skin and the surface of the therapy pad. If you are returning home post op, there should already be a layer of surgical dressing in place. If there is an open wound, do not use a cold therapy system without a physician’s consent and proper instruction. For a knee injury, make sure the knee is wrapped before using a cold therapy system.

4. Will my health insurance pay for a cold therapy system?
Probably not. While cold therapy systems provide doctor-approved treatment for pain and swelling from a knee injury, post op procedure and other orthopedic conditions, most health insurance providers such as Medicare & Blue Cross do not reimburse for continuous cryotherapy products. You will need to call your insurance carrier directly to see if they will reimburse you for your cryotherapy unit.
5. How can I order another cryotherapy pad?

6. Does IsoComforter’s Cold Therapy Unit provide heat and cold therapy?
No, the ISO-100 cold therapy system is typically prescribed for cold water use only. It does not have a mechanism to heat water.

8. Do I need a prescription from my physician to order a cryotherapy cooler and pad?
We strongly recommend that you have a prescription from a physician and that you have been properly instructed on how to correctly use a cryotherapy product. Cold therapy pads cannot be placed directly on the skin. There needs to be a thin barrier between the skin and the cold therapy pad.
9. Who do I call if I have a question about or a problem with my cooler?
Please call us toll free at and ask for our Production Manager. Please have your serial number of your cold therapy system ready along with the name and city of the physician that prescribed the product for you. However, please try a few simple troubleshooting steps prior to calling us. The most common problem is that the cooler is not properly plugged into a working outlet, or that a light switch activates the outlet’s power and it is not turned on. Please make sure there is ice and sufficient water in the cooler and that the pad is correctly and completely attached to both couplers. Sometimes the pad is wrapped too tightly, restricting the water flow. Try loosening the Velcro straps and make sure that no portion of the pad or hoses are kinked or constricted.
